In 1932, Fr James Malone, Parish Priest of Crayford started to search for land to build three new churches in Bexleyheath, Bostall Heath and Bexley in order to serve a growing population. The first church in Bexley opened on Friday 26th July, 1935 having 50 parishioners and 50 staff from Bexley hospital. This new building was wood framed and seated 220 people. It was administered from St Mary's of the Cray in Crayford and very often the priest would walk or cycle to Bexley.
It was only in 1955 that Bexley gained its full independence, when Fr Vincent Ryan was appointed priest-in-charge. The presbytery was built in 1961, overseen by Fr Ryan. Fr Joseph Coleman raised funds for the new church which was finalised in 1978, despite soaring costs. The hall was completed in April 1983 and opened by Fr Tom Power.
Currently, over 500 parishioners attend services, meetings and social activities in Bexley.
